on Mohs scale) featuring alternating layers of sard (red/brown chalcedony) and onyx (black or white chalcedony). Known historically as a protective stone associated with strength, courage, and stability, it has been used for over 4,500 years, notably in Roman cameos and ancient, non-stick wax seals.
